Service Leadership Programs

What Are Service Leadership Programs (SLPs)?

Kiwanis believes that leadership starts early—and that young people have incredible power to make a difference. That’s why we sponsor Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) in local schools to help students learn the value of serving others, leading with integrity, and building stronger communities.

Through these programs, students don’t just talk about leadership—they live it. They plan service projects, volunteer in their schools and neighborhoods, and discover that kindness and teamwork can change lives (including their own).

In K-Kids clubs worldwide, more than 36,000 children are learning leadership through service. Students are taking on the responsibility of running a K-Kids club as they plan and participate in community service projects. They assist the elderly with chores or organize community food drives. They serve their schools, raising funds for sports equipment and extracurricular activities.

Why They Matter

Service Leadership Programs create a lifelong ripple effect. Students gain confidence, compassion, and leadership skills that prepare them to succeed in school, in their careers, and as caring citizens. For many, it’s their first taste of community service—and it often inspires a lifetime of giving back.

When we invest in kids, we invest in the future of our community - That’s the heart of Kiwanis!
